MY STORY

“I want my life to be a candle that lights the candles of others.”

About Me

I am the product of Makobane Jacob and Moramadi Pinkie Thema. I am last born  within a line of 6 of some of the most dynamic, talented and successful siblings.  I grew up in a family where love  and acceptance were the  fuel that propelled our family forward.  Like most families, I wasn’t only raised by my parents, my aunt (BoRakgadi) also had a hand in shaping and moulding the man I became.  Life in the village was beautiful and simple, it was almost like I breathed better and breathed from a different place within myself. I have the most fondest memories of my childhood. Malesa Village remains the foundation of my great life. If you ask my siblings about what kind a child I was the response would be difference however what they all agree on is that I walked to the beat of my own drum. I was the kind of child that did everything different, not because I had a rebellious spirit but because I desired to be my own person. I was privileged to attend a primary school called  Tjatjaneng Primary school which was in a different village but also  where my mother was a teacher and retired as the headmistress(principal).

My high school years started in Makgoka High School and ended in Potchefstroom High School for boys in the North West. It is here that the man I eventually would become was shaped. I was passionate and excelled in sports (especially rugby) and music. I learnt a great deal of life lessons pertaining to team work and collaborative leadership on the field. I learnt  that inspirational leadership was less an act of self-aggrandizement and the search for personal glory and more  about understanding that we lose nothing by  lighting others candles.  I realised an incredibly life changing secret to success that we are at our best as a collective when we all shine our light. This is where I learnt that  putting people first is an critical strategy for winning in life.

I moved to Johannesburg to study my Electrical Engineering Diploma at Wits Tech . I started my first job at Telkom where I worked for 5 years, after which I worked for Inala Technologies  for another 6 years. Then a short stint at Business Connexion. It is during this time that I met and later married my wife, who helped me shape my ideas into fruition. She continues to be my pillar of strength and the “centre” that holds my family.  My position at Inala  included travelling within the continent. The vastness of the continent  introduced me to the vastness of my own dreams, it was during this time and being exposed to excellence that a yearning in my heart started to develop about my own legacy project, I was asking myself what story I wanted to write. I took a leap of faith and started Maredi Technologies and 10 years later, the writing on the pages is what I can be proud of.

Maredi Technologies is my best story yet after my family and children. Every day I create a new story one that is making a difference in the lives of so many people. Maredi Technologies  reinforced the lessons I learned  when I was younger on that rugby field about the importance of lighting the candles of  other people so that they can shine. Put another way this company reinforced the importance of  sowing good seeds in the soil of people’s lives.

I live my life with an insatiable appetite for purpose and significant I am deliberate about the story I am writing and what I share with others. I am an incurable optimist  and my goal is to build a remarkable life and legacy. I am passionate  and committed to cultivating the great talent, dreams, potential and purpose that resides within others.  I want my life to be  rich and good  soil from which the seeds of talent, dreams, potential and purpose will flourish. I want my life to be a candle that lights their candles of others.

I am passionate about seeing  the dreams and potential of those around me flourishing thirty, sixty and a hundred-fold. This for me is the defining nature of effective leadership.
